The Government is spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016. The money has been, and will be, directly allocated to schools.
How can a school spend this grant?
Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:
hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons.
support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs.
provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers.
run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games.
run sports activities with other schools.
How much did St Francis Catholic Primary School receive?
In the financial year 2013/14, the grant awarded to St Francis was approximately £8600.
In the financial year 2014/15, the grant awarded to St Francis was £8623.
In the financial year 2015/16, the grant awarded to St Francis was £8875.
In the financial year 2016/17, the grant awarded to St Francis was £8884.
In the academic year 2017/18, the grant awarded to St Francis is £17750.
How St Francis spent this money and the impact.
We receive funding for this initiative for the school year 2015/16 and 2016/17. We will be using the money in a variety of ways including the use of specialist coaches and a enriched curriculum to raise achievement and progress in PE and increase participation in all aspects of PE and sport.
