READING AT ST FRANCIS
In Key Stage 1 we use a coloured book band system which includes the Oxford Reading Tree and Rising Star schemes plus many other books.
At our Friday morning 'Merit' worship, one child is awarded the 'Big Cat Reading Award Certificate' which is given to a child who has shown excellence and determination in their reading that week.
You can also help your child to learn to read by following the instructions below:
Key Stage 2
In Key Stage 2 we follow the Accelerated Reader scheme. Children choose a book appropriate to their age and reading level and take an online quiz once they have finished the book. They get instant feedback which encourages and motivates the children to make progress with their reading skills.
If a child gets 100% on an Accelerated Reader quiz, they earn a gold sticker which is handed out before our Friday morning 'Merit' Worship. If they get 80% or higher, they get a silver sticker. At the end of each half term, the class with the highest number of gold and silver stickers get a special reward.
